In my long form post last week, I talked about three big reasons you are making everything in your life harder than it needs to be. Today, I’ve got a quick post on one simple thing you could do to make your life easier.
If you’ve got weight to lose, fitness to gain, symptoms to resolve, or anything else body related, you must do this.
Yes, MUST. I don’t make the rules, I’m just telling you this is how bodies work and not doing this is the guaranteed way to make it hard to impossible to achieve and maintain results with your body for a lifetime.
You are a system of systems
You have a plethora of systems in your body, all of which influence and are influenced by each other.
In order to be healthy, get fit, lose weight, etc. you have to know how to signal to the systems such that a cascade effect occurs, where you do one thing but that one thing influences many things.
This is systems theory. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And everything must work together so everything can keep working together.
Here’s how most people get this wrong with weight loss/fitness goals:
They focus on 1 or 2 things, and within those things focus on 1 or 2 things.
Example - you focus on diet and exercise so you can get in shape, and within those things you focus on calories and frequency and intensity of exercise.
This narrow focus fails to consider that you are a system of systems and ensures you will ride the struggle bus for however long you keep that up.
Here are some things which are not considered when you focus only on calories and frequency and intensity of exercise and which create a cascade effect of success if you pay attention to them through your actions:
What foods do you eat first in the day?
What foods do you eat first in the meal?
Do the foods you’re eating match the environment you’re living in?
What season is it?
What form of light are you eating under?
Is your appetite well-managed by your body or is it out of control?
Do you have appropriate hunger at appropriate times?
Are you eating real, nutrient dense food or are you eating food-like products with added vitamins?
Where are you getting your minerals from?
How stressed is your body, mind, and spirit?
Is your system trained to burn fat efficiently or are you a sugar-burner?
Are you doing the kind of exercise that increases your metabolic rate or that just increases your cravings?
Are you getting the right amount, and type of stimulus on your body so that it can adapt?
What time of day are you exercising?
What are you eating around your exercise time?
Are you sleeping enough and deeply?
Do you have enough recovery banked in order to exercise at the level that you are?
I could go on. The amazing thing is that all of the above bullet points can be resolved by just a few incredibly simple actions.
You don’t need to look like this guy in order to make it happen either.
Choosing to do walking as exercise a few days a week and doing it at sunrise before breakfast without any sunglasses or glasses on would take care of several of the above bullet items in one easy swoop.
